Both have their merits.

Some people want to be fast drivers, while others want to have fast cars.

Some people are slow drivers in slow cars, while the gifted rare ones are fast drivers in fast cars.

Everyone wants to believe that they're a fast driver, and that they have a fast car, just how everyone wants to believe that they made the right decision in purchasing any given part or modification.

To each, their own. You can't change the mind of someone who's not open to a different viewpoint.
