Motortrend really should've clarified that those numbers aren't for the stock Mustang V6. Here are the numbers compared to a more recent test of a 6AT without the $2000 performance package:
Code:
Metric Stock AT Performance Package MT
0-30 2.2 1.9 (s)
0-40 3.2 2.8 (s)
0-50 4.6 3.9 (s)
0-60 6.2 5.1 (s)
0-70 7.8 6.7 (s)
0-80 9.6 8.5 (s)
0-90 12.4 10.5 (s)
0-100 15.4 13.1 (s)
passing, 45-65 3.2 2.7 (s)
1/4 mile time 14.5 13.7 (s)
1/4 mile speed 97.3 102.2 (MPH)
braking, 60-0 120 104 (ft)
Lateral accel 0.88 0.96 (g)
Figure 8 time 26.0 25.8 (s, avg)
Figure 8 force 0.67 0.71 (g, avg)
Top-gear @ 60 1500 1800 (RPM)
Still very impressive, and presumably the stock 6MT falls in-between them. Sources:

I've seen a 0-60 of 6.5 sec for the MX5 before, but didn't realize MT had tested it at 6.3 sec.

I've driven many NBs and NCs, and each time it was immediately apparent that the NC is faster in a straight line and (more importantly) its power delivery is more linear. But honestly I didn't feel like the NC was significantly more fun, so I saved my money and went with the NB.
