You've got better handling, lighter weight, and a car that tends towards oversteer, so getting the nose pointed around the corner and hauling the ass end around is much easier and faster. Plus, the STI when it dips into the low revs in the curves (unless it executes a really good downshift), will have to climb a hard mountain to boost, while you putter away building linear power at 12.5:1.

It's not just pure power to weight, as those power numbers are peak, and tell you nothing about how the power is made. STI's and WRXs generally make their peak hp around 5500 and peak torque around 5000. A SC'd or NA 86 just keeps building power and torque through the entire band... well, except for the innovate SC.

For canyon carving, provided equivalent peak power to weight between the 86 and STI and provided appropriate tires for the 86 commensurate with its power level, it should have the clear edge over the STI provided equal drivers.

Basically, I believe you and it doesn't surprise me either (and pleases me immensely) that boosted and under 300whp our cars still can match or out match stage 2 (TBE + protune) STIs.
