Perhaps a variable length intake could help, the 1LR-GUE has a similar cam setup, no variable timing other than phasing, and its low end torque is comparable to the FA20 while revving 2000 rpm higher.

I guess it could happen, since this isn't meant to be a poser car I think they could sacrifice a little low end torque, but I'm not sure on the low end combustion stability thing, which is really important for an OEM.
