Not to mention that the GTR is a world car now, and the Vette has kicked it up a notch, If Toyota made a supra now that only competed with the Z it would be largely rejected I think. They wouldn't put the Supra badge on it.
That kind of Supra would be more parallel with an IS coupe, rather than an SC coupe.
the GR is open deck, but I believe the AZ has shown that regardless, the design can take quite a bit of abuse.

I was thinking of what they could do reasonably quickly with current tech. I think my proposal would slot closer to the GT-R than the Z from a power to weight figure. Think of a 911 Carrera S competitor from a pure numbers perspective. Properly tuned with a good amount of tire on it, the numbers should run with stock Vettes. The Mk3 never tried to compete with the era's ZR1, and the Mk4 never really had a 'Super-Vette' to compete with.
With the right pricing (Between the Z and the GT-R, 8k less than an ISF?) and assuming the engine and drivetrain could handle it, turbos would be thrown on very quickly. Hell in search for better spooling of big turbos, 1UZFEs are going into both Mk3s and Mk4s these days. A 5.0L motor would be a welcome platform for boost by some of the Supra community. As well as be able to put down some HUGE numbers (pending the open-deck block's strength).
