Never heard of this philosophy before. Shortest distance traveled doesn't mean the fastest driving line. I thought you wanted to be a faster driver.

The driving line allows you to carry the most speed. You may not be using all of the tires' available grip now, but once you become faster, you'll want to drive that line.
