E% variability doesn't really have much to do with my last post. You can tune well beyond MBT (in NA application) with far less than e85. I suspect e40 would give enough octane to allow you to run a too aggressive (power robbing) tune without even knowing it from logged knock retard. This is why dyno tuning is key for custom e85 tuning for more power.
