Actually their are.
The AR platform is classed as restricted (a handgun) not a rifle and can have a barrel as short as a legal pistol length barrel.
As a pistol the AR can only be transported with a trigger lock in a locked case and only taken to an authorized restricted (pistol) range with a pistol transport permit. No hunting allowed.
