Then I went to my first autocross with it, and with plenty of other twins around in varying states of tune and all of them had the crickets, and none of them were concerned about it.

They might try to, but that's just your sign that you need a better dealer. And after-warranty, find a local independent that knows what they're doing, and learn the dude's name.
