I looked into getting a different turbo but I'd have to replace a lot of other parts to get it working and it wouldn't have a warranty and it would put more stress on an old engine and be less responsive. Sigh... and I just spent 3k on a new transmission. This car is killing me in repair costs. I need to retire it for snow duty and get the FRS as a daily driver.

wow! You've spent $5500 repairing a 13 yr old car that cost 28k to begin with? I remember those eclipses and I loved them but that is serious coin to be dropping into a car that is probably only worth what you have put into it or maybe even less.
you should pick up a junker to drive around before something else breaks.
