Scion being looked at and marketed as a lower brand needing CPR, Toyota wanted to propel Scion sales too much. But the price is way too close to the BRZ, that most will opt of the BRZ because of options- HID, limited trim etc.
I would've bought the 86 over the BRZ but not the FRS over the BRZ. I'm probably not alone. ( 86>BRZ>FRS )

im with you right there. its a branding tragidy. a major part of the inital scuess for the 86 in Japan is due to the n
ostalgic felling of owning a peoples race car of the past.
i suspect the only reason why it was branded a scion here in NA is due to toyota's internal political play and nothing more.
