Yep, more power means more air which means more fuel which means less MPG. But when driving lightly, a turbo gets it up to speed more efficiently so it uses less fuel. But having a big turbo which doesn't spool down low (like in the STI and Evo), doesn't help fuel economy much at all. The turbo in my Eclipse is tiny but still gives me good power and it gets great mpg for the amount of power/torque it produces.
