I drove in every snow storm (NJ) this year, several pretty bad, with 255/40/18 Hankook V12 summer performance tires. Never spun out, never had any accidents, got stuck one time trying to get out of a parking lot whose exit was plowed over.

Knowing the limits of the vehicle you are driving and not exceeding those limits is all it's about. I left extra room knowing my stopping distance was sub-par and was gentle on the throttle.
