A lot of people in a car that starts to spin, regardless of which wheels are driven, will tend to lose control of the car. The natural reaction of a lot of people tends to be to hit the brakes, which does not help at all once the spin has begun. This is part of the reason I think more people should take high-performance driving classes, preferably both on high-grip and low-grip surfaces - the correct reactions are not necessarily the instinctive ones, especially in slick, variable conditions.
