Sludge from gas pump?

Went to go for a fill at a local gas station and when I took the nozzle out, there were strings of a thick viscous amber fluid coming from it. It was oozing from the holes on the nozzle and all over the rubber cap.

Spoke to the manager over the phone and he didn't want to do shit. Which REALLY pissed me off. After a little pushing, he said he would pay for the cab since I'm only 1.5 miles away. Called my insurance company just in case and have two tow guys as witnesses that there was sludge present on the pump. No way I was going to drive the car with an unknown substance in the gas tank. Manager said he was going to get it analyzed tomorrow and we'll go from there. I took samples, but not sure whether or not I should have it towed to Subaru yet and the manager is being an asshole. I'm probably going to go to the gas station tomorrow morning since the manager said he's going to be there and get his insurance info.

I understand that this could be nothing or it could really fuck the engine.

Any ideas?

Hard to see in this photo because this was a few minutes after and it was upright in the pump, but it was literally oozing out of those holes when I took it out of the car. There's still a bit of it in the bottom left-most hole that you can kinda see, but the yellow green tint on the nozzle is also the fluid and not a reflection of anything.

Fluid is thick like molasses and while green in the pics, is really amber. Pics also aren't a great representation of scale. It's a lot more in person.
