It's strange, but I heard they chose the 1zzfe instead of the 2zzge to, oddly enough, enhance the driving experience. Had to do with power delivery. Something like the old saying that people buy horsepower but drive torque. I don't know how I feel about that and it pertaining to the FR-S. But this new car is likely the FR incarnation of that one.

As for offering an exceptional handling sports car with a feeble (but easily swappable and upgradeable) powertrain is no bad thing in my book. Just leaves a little room for the hardcore. (Why pay for an expensive, mediocre engine that's just going to get yanked out anyways?)
