That totally cracked me up. Based on clearbook sales and other used car price estimates I looked at, for 2-3 year old cars I was considering, I really have no idea why anyone would pay Carmax prices.

I do agree a thorough inspection is worth considering, even if the car is still under factory warranty and has a clean Carfax. I just think it would be rather easy to save well over $1000, even after inspection, by buying used from a new car dealer for the cars I considered. When I bought my Camaro used 12 years ago the market was different, yet I get the impression that still today there are similar opportunities to save 10% or more off some of the ridiculous window sticker prices I've seen.
