Ok, I just saw a previous gen GC 3.8 (with Brembos) in a parking lot and it drew my curiostiy. Especially since so many here been talking about how big it is. Well I went and stood near it. I actually did a 360 around the car to get a feel of it's size. From what I remember those things weigh in around 3400, so they're not light, but compared to comparable coupes these days, it ain't heavy either.
Let's not let cars like the MX-5/BRZ/FRS delude our minds here. Even average sports (or sporty) cars these days typically push close to 3800 lbs. or more. So the GC (especially the 2.0T) are fairly light in comparison. After having walked around the GC and really looked at it in detail, it's MHO that the car isn't all that big at all. There was a Mustang V6 and a Camaro in the same lot and I stood next to them too for comparison. Those cars were not only immensely bigger, but none of them remotely conveyed a sense of nimble-ness or athleticism like the GC did. I really don't see why so many here knock it. It's actually a pretty good looking car IMO. It's proportions are pretty good too, also IMO.
I came away with this on my mind. I didn't like the front end of the last gen. That isn't to say I like the new one all that much more, but I was able to conclude that the last gen's front end looks unfinished and unpolished. It definitely doesn't convey a sense of sophistication like the new ones. Like it or not, the new one seems to convey a sense of sophistication, on a design level, that the old gen just doesn't have. Add in all the new improvements, even with the price hike, and I still think it's a great contender. Now I'm not saying that we should all go out and buy one, but I can predict one thing when either of the two (3.8 or 2.0T) comes to a stop next to us at a stop light I can guarantee that some amount of respect will be paid. Heavy porker with an ugly nose or not.
