I think this is just ludicrous as to just not take care of a new car and thrash on it and not worry about it seems like a poor financial decision. We will see who's car looks better in approx. 1 year's time! I'm in my early 30s now and I want to have a pristine, classy sports car. Maybe it is just some of the younger folks who don't quite understand the value of money yet. (I agree though, a car isn't really an investment.)
