Ever drive a car without the drive-by-wire crap? May predate your time, but my old '91 Toyota pickup had a throttle cable, physically wired to the throttle body; the idle was controlled by a screw holding in the position of the wire. I'd have to say it was just a bit stiffer than that

I'd be happy with that. I'll give this a try when I get home! I'll take some pics as well and post up a tutorial, although I'm guessing it sounds really simple.
