Different manufacturers use different dates for different model years all the time. Just look at the GTR, totally unpredictable. 2013 GTR came out January of 2012 which was totally unexpected to 2012 GTR owners.
Bottom line is no one knows what the model year timeline looks like with the BRZ. Hell, we don't even have price, EPA estimated fuel mileage, or even an official release date when we can expect to drive one home for the very first model year.
