To me, it's not a good measure of fuel economy, because of the variable of how much is left in the tank upon fill up.

, one of the few sensible things about this car is the fuel economy, it's understandable when owners aren't hitting the 30 mpg advertised mileage (by as much as 30% in some cases) in their brand new 2.0L 4-banger.
I know if I bought a car and worked the math out that I only needed to fill up on Tuesdays + trips and I was filling up 2x a week regardless I'd be at least a little disappointed.
While I agree with you wholeheartedly, it's definitely a reasonable thing to post about.
