The car jerks forward because the rear tires stopped bit. When they stop spinning and start grabbing, the car starts to move forward again. Go to your local drag strip and watch the cars doing their burnouts.
Notice how the car jerks forward as the tires hook up?

Ah.. Thanks for the explanation. I guess the driver was thinking if he could spin a bit more and let the rear gripped so that he can move forward rather than hitting the plate. So he needed more throttle to complete the drift but didn't.
