Yep, I agree that parting out is the way to go.
However - I don't really believe what I've just said.
23 years ago, I bought a used vehicle with a modded engine which was done professionally by one of our most respected racecar builders.
I paid good money for those mods - roughly 75% of their original cost.
That vehicle was modded when it was 6 months old (bye-bye warranty), and the mods included camshaft, valves, valve springs, head porting & polishing, carbs, manifolds, exhaust, etc.
It's now going on for it's 24th year since it was modded, and that motor's never been opened since.
It's still got about 90% of it's original power, and sounds really sweet.
So, IMO it all depends on who did the mods, and the extent of the mods.
If the power gain was 50% or less, and it was done by someone really reputable, I'd be comfortable buying that vehicle for a fair price once the modded engine has survived a year or two without incident.
