I knew someone was gonna answer with this. Ordinarily, you'd be right. However, the S2K was designed from the ground up as a convertible, so the chassis is plenty stiff from the original design. And considering how well tuned it is from the factory, you know Honda did everything it's power to keep the weight down, but not at the expense of making expensive new parts that would drive it's price up.
We're talking about an entry level car in the toyobaru, costing approximately 21 large. Newsflash: it's going to have heavy, standardized parts on it from the existing Toyo or Subaru parts bins to keep costs down. There is no getting around that.
