I put a deposit down on February 3 and the dealership found me the car I was looking for (Ultramarine 6 M/T Monogram) on February 5. It is onboard a ship that's sailing this way with an estimated arrival in port on February 12. Besides being able to get the color and transmission I wanted there are other advantages to ordering the car before the ship docks. You have the ability to select which port installed options you want (or don't want). Once the car leaves the port it will be more difficult to get exactly what you want.
