I did not mention a physician is a requirement to meet with before starting a physical fitness regimen. I mean that you should meet with a physical therapist, athletic trainer, nutritionist, etc. My clinic does free consults for people that need a quick screen before starting to exercise. I am a sports physical therapist so I am qualified to help in that arena. It's not as simple as get off your ass and exercise. I would not continue to see an MD with that advice.
Athletes go through pre-season physicals and annual physicals. Just because you are young and feel healthy. Does not mean you are healthy. For example, individuals with African heritage are susceptible to sudden heart attacks secondary to enlarged heart. That's my point here. I am sure most of us on this forum would be capable of performing a workout routine without medical clearance without repercussions. Although I don't recommend that. I want everyone to be careful. That's all.
