Same could have been said about Toyota for much longer than Honda, till the 86. Subaru wasn't going to do it without significant prodding either.
For all of the 2000's, the ONLY Japanese company making reasonably affordable sports coups besides Mazda (okay, the mx- 5 is a convertible) was Honda. Nissan was building muscle cars, effectively & definitely expensive.
Then Toyota got some sense & here we are. Who's to say Honda won't see how smart Toyota was & follow suit & return to their senses as well.
