When I had my STI, I rarely got any compliments (if any) on it. Like you said, STIs/Evos look like sedans, or in the case of my STI, a station wagon.
The FR-S is the opposite. Complete strangers will walk up to talk about the car and sometimes when I'm walking back to the parking lot, I'll find people standing around staring at it. When I brought it to the track, folks would love to talk about it and ask me how I planned to mod it.
I don't mind, just comes with the territory. It is a bit disconcerting at first though when you come back to your car to find some stranger pressed up against the glass trying to see the interior.
