Dyno weekend finally came up. @
jamesm came to Miami to tune it. First of all, he is a machine. On Friday after working and driving 4 hours to Miami he jumped in the car and started doing what very few tuners do (IF ANY). Started tuning for drivability.
Spent from 9 pm to 4 am working on it. Relentless, he fine tuned the MAF, the DI by themselves, the PI by themselves and then combined them to tune it more. This is a time consuming process that almost no one wants to do.
On Saturday morning we continued fine tuning it more in preparation for dyno time. I cannot be more happy about the whole experience. I've made two really awesome choices with this car. One was allowing @kab frs work on the car including when things have gone wrong and to design the turbo kit. The other was not getting a "Pro Tune" and allowing @
jamesm to show me what IS a proper tune.
To give everyone an idea what I mean, my mind was blown away when he showed me I could have an FI tuned car with no idle dip. Every single one of the 50 tunes my car had before now, idle dipped. "Pro tuners" had told me that the LW FW caused it and there was no way around it. LOL.....
I will make a BIG review thread with lots of info when the dyno tune is done. The reason it did not get completed was because we had fuel pump issues. No matter how much fuel we added, it would lean out after 6K RPMs. I'm now looking at what options beside the 265 pump to get.
As far as numbers, with 8 degrees of timing (should run about 22 with E 85 and each degree acounts for 10-20 whp) at 14.5 psi, the car did a run of 293 WHP only going up to 6.5K RPMs. Doing the math means it should make around 450 with no major problems. Also, GTX30) being "laggy" is a myth. Full boost around 4300 RPM (@
jamesm correct anything I've said here if its wrong).
