The blue wire is labeled "power antenna" on the wire itself. The Sony HU, of course, has the blue/white wire that's tagged with a label sticker as "remote turn on". I'm familiar with this, as it is used to wire directly to the remote turn on input on aftermarket amps. The aftermarket harness doesn't have a blue/white wire for remote turn on... at least not one labeled as such. So, I bet that doubled over line on the metra harness is for both powered antenna and remote turn-on from the remote turn-on lead from the Sony HU. Attached is a picture of the wiring harness layout of the Sony XAV-701HD. The sheet also has instructions on powering the remote antenna if there is one, but the harness from Sony doesn't have a dedicated powered antenna lead.

Also, the Metra harness had a orange/black lead for "Dimmer gnd". I'm guessing (most likely correctly) that this is just for HU's which receive the dimmer input from dimmer ground, not dimmer (+). Haven't had one yet that did that, though (since I've owned a car, I've owned 4 aftermarket HU's: 2 JVC's, a pioneer, and now this Sony). No biggie, just another item I noticed.

But I'll try this. It'll be nice to have SOME extra bass (though muddy and crummy) until this coming Saturday when the JL Amp, JL sub, JBL components, and JL 4" coaxials go in.

I think it was supposed to be left unplugged though, as the metra harness didn't have provision to fit this one. It's more than just remote amp turn on, as there's several pins there that are wired to something. Curiosity is definitely getting to me on what this particular harness is for. I'm pretty certain on what all the stock HU monitors and where it gets its data, and all those sources and outputs are accounted for (geo location and speed from the gps, radio from the antenna and it's powered wire, device input from the usb/aux-in cable, standard speaker and power harnesses, xm radio input from xm antenna in).

Maybe it's for connecting to the ecu for speed input, and for some reason it needs quite a few wires to determine that, just so it can say 'screw you' to dialing or texting or even getting to your contact list when the wheels are moving.
There's a thread somewhere that shows the back of the FR-S and BRZ head units. Though they are different, they use the exact same plugs, just arranged differently, and it shows what all is what. This might be it, I haven't dug through it yet.
