They were simply not competitive with the other Japanese makes in that arena so they made the decision a long time ago to exit that segment. But, trust me, this was not some spur-of-the-moment decision made so that they could pump out a few more BRZ's thanks to high initial demand projections. This was a fully calculated business decision that took quite a long time to arrive at. It just happens to be coincidence that the news is breaking at this time.
Thank you. It could be the case. What caught my eye is that 'average' production capacity of those minicars is almost 150k cars per year (8m/54years). Considering that its never linear, its more now, than 54 years ago. Thats a lot of minicars to produce and a lot of passenger cars to fill those resources.

Obviously FHI are going to make other cars there, not just BRZ, but I guess, that is just another positive hint that demand is there, and they addressing it upfront.
