I wouldn't let brake fluid sit in the car too long, hence the recommendation of 2 years. Brake fluid is hygroscopic which can lead to corrosion in your brake lines. This can damage your ABS sensors.

If you hear people say "i've never changed my brake fluid on my car"... well their car isn't from this century or have all these sensors in their cars now.
