Yes! For example, my porsche cabriolet was lightly rear ended and it looked like it only needed a new bumper. Insurance company (not mine) refused to pay for a dealer mechanical inspection. So I took it anyways under the same claim number and they discovered that the convertible top arm was broken with the impact. Bumper repair and paint = $800, top arm, paint and install =$1500. I didn't have to pay a cent.
