Gee .. I guess the odd 750,000 Miatas/MX-5s Mazda has sold can't encourage Toyota in making that that financial case

And it's not about the sales in any particular year, car model sales go through cycles, it's the long term that's important and filling a market niche Toyota is missing.
Don't forget the new lightweight SkyActive MX-5 is due shortly and the sales in that niche should show a good bump. Toyota is simply being proactive here. Competition is good for any enthusiasts car, and the sports car market in particular need all the attention from the press/mags/manufacturers it can get.
What I hope is Mazda intro a new Coupe MX-5 as competition to the Toybaru models....
