I cross shopped a STi with Mazdaspeed3 back in 2010. I ended up with Mazdaspeed3 and had no regret. It was fucking fast with some bolt ons with Cobb AP Protune.
Just wanted to give you a pointer on the hatchback utility.
With the rearseat folded down, I was able to carry a california king size memory foam mattress.
If you like the styling of hatchback, go for it. The hatchback utility can't be matched. Hench my wife drives a 2010 A4 Avant.
Get a STi and do a simple tune, it will wake up the car like CRAZY.
