Considering the same plant also makes the Forester and other cars alongside the BRZ... And considering that TOyota is apparently seeing WAY more demand for the GT-86 than they were expecting (one rumor put it at nearly 3 times expectations).. I don't think there's anything artificial about the limited quantities.

Also keep in mind that Subaru and Toyota weren't going to commit to a 1 million car production run on a brand new car for a market segment neither company has sold to in a long time (or ever for Subaru). So from the start I'm sure the plan wasn't for large production numbers.

However, if the rumors are true and the demand for the FT around the world turns out to be really high, you can bet you'll see much greater production numbers in the future. Just right now, this joint venture is trying to put its foot in the water without it being bitten off.

Believe me, I understand the frustration. Very few things piss me off more than wanting to give a company my money and being told they won't sell to me.

The good news is, not every BRZ will be spoken for. The US is a HUGE market with tons of dealerships. Not every US FT will be pre-ordered. They will be out there. You just have to find them. It may be a state or two away. But a Nevada BRZ is the same as a Rhode Island BRZ. It just might take a little more time and effort to get.
