There are plenty of subaru tuning guides out there on the net, like this one: https://sites.google.com/site/asubienewbietuningguide/
I think you really want to get a firm grasp of how the knock control systems works before you start trying to fine-tune the base map.

Thanks mad_sb - I've read that guide several times already and have a pretty decent grasp of how advance, IAM, FLKC, etc. work. The algorithm itself is very straightforward. I haven't done actual log recording YET, but I've been monitoring IAM and knock indicators real time on the OFT, and it looks ok (very occasional knock spikes under certain sudden load conditions, but I've read that's normal?). IAM is solid as a rock at 1. You're right though, I should actually do some logging rather than just real time monitoring, I'll make that my 'baseline' step. Maybe log WOT from 2000 to redline in 2nd and 3rd, and then some normal part throttle driving?
I appreciate your advice.
EDIT: One question - in ROMRAIDER, why are there two timing base maps? I.E. map A and map B?
