Had a similar experience - also liked that the BRZ was more of a "true sports car", and had 200 NA HP instead of turbo HP.
The bells and whistles and the hatchback functionality were nice in the Veloster - but for my money, I'd have bought a Focus ST. Costs more yes, but their bells are shinier and their whistles are more refined. Also 50 more HP.
