Theft of car parts belonging to an insured car are covered by the theft coverage on the car insurance policy. So is the damage to the door where entry was gained. Only one deductible will be charged as all loss resulted from the one incident.

If you thought to do it you would normally have bought a depreciation waiver coverage for the first two years of insurance on a new car, highly recommended. If so then new replacement parts must be supplied by the insurer.

In any event, the insurer must make good the loss and only Scion can supply replacements for the four stock wheels. Michelin supplies replacement tires. Depreciation deduction on the tires will depend on actual odometer mileage and should be close to zero.

You did nothing wrong. Thieves are everywhere. Police can only usefully address repeat or pattern thefts, random break ins are practically impossible to successfully investigate. Always report theft though because police do maintain the record and do process the record to determine patterns. Theft is investigated and if successful, prosecuted. Just because it is difficult to succeed doesn't mean the police do nothing. They investigate everything, according to the resources they have and the evidence they can gather.

Finally, they were after the wheels.....nobody wants these tires!
