I work for a Toyota service department as a Service Writer.

According to my Toyota FTS engineer and District Service/Parts Manager, yes they are aware that ethanol makes it worse.

I do about 30,000+ miles a year in my car as a daily. I'm on my fifth fuel pump as the changes have been made - the first from the factory, a replacement at 10k with the same OE part. Pump 3 was the countermeasured part with the same part number (rev.A). When that one made noise, my FTS rep had me replace it with another so the revised part could be sent back to be torn apart and inspected. I've had the 3rd revision fuel pump in my car for about 3400 miles so far and had no noise come back, and I've been asked to use a different filling station and brand of fuel at every fillup. I was getting approx 2500 miles before having a chirp return on the other pumps.

So far so good for me, at least.
