For me, the bigger issue is when you're caught out of gear. It's not always possible to predict when you'll want to accelerate in the real world, and downshifting can take an extra 1-2 s, which can be the difference.
You can keep the engine at 4500+ rpm all the time, which would solve the problem, but people will think you're a douche driving like that. I admit I do this time to time when I'm in a rush, but I don't really care what other people think of me, so it doesn't bother me.
Other than those situations though, I agree, 200 hp is plenty for DD in a sub-2800 lbs. car.
