Okay...it's not a backplate. That's not the correct terminology I don't believe - the item you and the OP are talking about is a
rotor dust shield. It is commonly removed during big brake swaps and never put back on. I ran my WRX without a dust shield for the better part of 5 years and had NO issues. Don't worry about the dust shield bro, it's not necessary.

Keep the front calipers on the same side they came on originally. This ensures the pistons are in the proper positions (direction of rotation hasn't changed, so the leading piston is still leading). This WILL require swapping the bleeder plugs from one side of the caliper to the other.
Obviously an old post, but still worth giving the right information.
