See my answer below. I "guess" coilovers would be the only solution to achive what you are looking for.

I'm not 100% sure on that, however from what I saw on the forums it should work with coilovers since the strut on coilovers is narrower than the stock ones, so there is more space available.
But I leave this question to a coilover owner to answer, since I lack the experience to answer it correctly :-)
