yes, you can achieve the same look with really ANY size wheel. what matters is the offset.
so with an 8.5' you'll probably want like a +30 offset and a 245/40 tire.
the whole flushness aspect is all about offset, has nothing to do with having wide wheels, as you can have wide wheels and a shitty offset and it won't be flush.
