He did not. However, if someone was in, say, 2rd gear, and needed to check their speed or tighten up the radius of the turn without shifting gears, left foot braking would help.
I used this type of braking in gymkhana-type courses where there's a tight figure-8 configuration built in before/after a decreasing radius turn.
