Paradoxically, the engine has too little torque to drift this car easily.

The chassis is set up to drift easily, comparatively speaking.

On snow or ice this is an evil set up.

If you get any snow or ice, or perhaps even very cold wet pavement you will find it much easier to practice this skill.

Initiating the drift isn't very difficult, as you have discovered. Maintaining the drift is trickier than it looks on TV. You can't really learn this from a description, any more than you can learn to ride a bike from a book.

The only way to learn this technique is to practice in a safe area. A lot. I mean practice a lot, on a lot. Parking lot. Do not practice this anywhere you might slide into a curb or depression in the road. You don't want to flip the car or bend the suspension.

Try to practice when it is cold out, less grip makes it easier to sustain the slide.

Wet and cold is better as long as you don't have too many puddles. Hit a puddle during a slide and you may need clean underwear.

Snow or ice are ideal as long as you have at least all season tires. Summer tires are too slippery in the cold. The learning curve on ice or snow is very steep, prepare to spin out a lot. Have plenty of room for uncontrolled slides before you reach anything solid.
