Hey guys. New boy here.
I work for Hyundai, I build em. I have a 2012 Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-spec, its only track time has been 40 laps on Atlanta Motorsports Park. I fell in love with the car that day and then began to neglect it almost as quickly as I got back into the real world.
When driving quickly you can overlook most of the flaws. Most ...I found it too tedious to heel toe due to the lack of a 1:1 throttle ratio, awkward pedal placement, and the horrible shift gating and the linkage assembly (Why???WHY A LINKAGE). Even if your mind is 3 steps ahead (As it should be) and your head is on the course, and you are a good driver. you are going to botch shifts often, especially when you have to time those shifts to your feet ALA rev matching. (maybe my car is just broken).
you can even overlook the very clunky way the traction control still interfferes when it is disabled, yes. There is nothing more annoying then clearing a crest with your rear axle, when suddenly "God" decides to apply a brake somewhere that stops your slip angle from increasing naturally. It makes you want to lift.
You can overlook the way the traction control when enabled, when it detects slip of any kind totally removes throttle control for 2 seconds. That is all it seems to do, cut throttle. Which is a hazard on the street in my opinion but again you won't notice this really on track because if you keep your FOOT TO THE FLOOR the traction control turns the car into an AWD handling wise (Gist of it? traction control works fine if your keep your foot to the floor, if you try to modulate pedal as a good driver should it kills your ignition and fuel for about 2 seconds)
Only one thing really pushed me into the genesis. 25% employee discount baby ....
Take my advice, even with 7-8k off sticker ..I would not make the same decision again.
Is it any question I want the BRZ???? I will name it squishy and it will be mine! and it will be MY SQUISHY!!! (I am awkward ..) But seriously ..it is like I met ..an angel. And I cant stop thinking about her. I have become OBSESSED with this platform.
