I am/was very interested in this car. I own and have owned a couple of Camaro Z28's but, they simply aren't practical or economical cars to use as daily drivers with $4+ gas prices. (not to mention that they don't handle all that well to begin with.)
The Toyobaru is exactly the type of car I was looking for. Small, fast, fun, and economical.
Instead of waiting for a first year car that would depreciate a bunch I went ahead and bought a 2009 GTI and saved myself around $8000.
The GTI has enough fun factor to hold me over for a few years until there are some BRZ's on the "used" market - or until a "hot" version is released.
Another thing is that there is already an established after market for performance mods on the very refined 2.0L turbo workhorse for vw.
I'll let everyone else discover the mechanical issues for the new boxer engine.
