This is my first Subaru too...so I'm not well versed in the whole badge thing either. However, there are a lot of other Subaru drivers in my area (mostly Foresters and Outbacks), but I typically see their badges on the outside of the car just underneath the rear Subaru-lettered badge.
That's a bit safe in my opinion. Why not stick that sucker on the lower right-hand corner of the dash trim piece? Then you and passengers see it every time you go for a drive?
